A question that many patients struggle with is “What IS healthy?” When it comes to nutrition, physical activity, and body shape and size, there are many misguided messages communicated by the very sources that adolescents and young adults seek out, including the Internet, social media, and television. Friends, family members, and even, unfortunately, some health professionals may also contribute damaging ideas about health and body wellness. Collectively, our society sends powerful, relentless messages compelling young people to look a certain way. Celebrity role models, the influence of social media, messaging from advertisers – there is a constant emphasis on attractiveness, thinness, fitness, and an on-trend appearance. The inevitable desire for young people to meet the social standards of attractiveness often becomes intimately intertwined with self-esteem, which can lead to significant negative effects on their physical and mental health.
Adolescence and young adulthood are prime stages for developing healthy habits that, in turn, lead to healthy bodies and minds.
Children and their parents often need help navigating the complexities of adolescence and young adulthood, even more so given the ever-changing societal pressures placed on these young people. As your personal physician, Dr. Fridy will expertly, positively, and empathetically address emerging questions and medically manage concerns about nutrition and body wellness.

An expert in the medical management of eating disorders of all types, Dr. Fridy is also a proponent of the Health at Every Size (HAES) movement that celebrates body diversity.
